Life in a small ranching community can be wonderful. But it can also be a life of isolation. To counter that, and to promote interest in the local library, we invented "Cake Club." Now in its 4th year, what began with 6 people eating cake has grown. Our record is 103 people attending. Ages 18 to somewhere in their 90s. About one-third men. It is my great fortune to love baking. So once a month, I make 6 to 10 cakes, take them to the library, and starting at noon, people come to eat cake and talk. Sometimes we run out of cake. In September, we still had people eating and talking at 4:30 p.m. But there's a challenge that the Boots address. What kind of cake is under all that frosting? Red velvet cakes always hide their identity under cream cheese frosting. With Boots sprinkled across the top, I don't have to cut the cake to know what it is. One of the regulars, a widower in his mid-80s, always scans the table for Boots! Kids love them, too. So Boots, Cowboy/Cowgirl Hats, and other sprinkles are used on cake and cookies for children's programming. Thank you so much!
